COB LED Flexible Strip Lights – New Strip, No Spots!

Table of Contents

LED strips have been a popular DIY lighting option for a long time and may be used for a variety of purposes. That’s why we’re so excited about COB flexible strip lighting, the newest LED strip technology.

What is COB?

COB stands for Chip on Board in the LED world, and it simply implies that the LED bare chip is packaged directly on the circuit board (PCB). Flip chips are the LEDs that are “chip on board” and utilized in flexible light bars.

COB LED Technology

When LED lights were introduced to the market a few years ago, they were called a technological marvel. Low power consumption, longer life, higher efficiency, and less heat emission were all features that made us forget about incandescent and halogen lamps. Then LED strips were introduced to provide a solution for lighting around hidden spaces and curves. Things got even better when cob-dominated technology was introduced to the competition.

LED strips were first offered thanks to the development of cob LED technology. Because of their versatility, LED strips can solve a variety of lighting issues. They come in a number of applications and are extremely effective, but there is one major drawback: hot spots. The arrangement of light emitting diodes on a printed circuit board causes hot spots on led strips, which are bright patches. Hot spots are difficult to detect from afar, but they are tough to ignore at close range.

Cob technology pioneered the hot spot solution. The chip is packed densely on the circuit board to ensure that the light is dispersed equally across the strip. This produces a cooler appearance that is more suited to accent lighting and other uses. The diode is integrated in a bigger reflector and then covered in a semiconductor in LED strips.

The chips of cob-led strips are merely covered with thin semiconductors, allowing for better flexibility and uniform illumination. The cob LED strip’s structure allows for a broader arc of illumination, which means more light.

How Are COB LED Flex Strips Made?

These strips are made using the same high-quality PCB that we use in our other LED Flex Strip lights. The flip-chip LEDs are then firmly packed under the strip’s center, resulting in 512 LEDs per meter! This serves as a protective layer for the small flip-chip LEDs below as well as balances the color temperature.

Cob vs Smd

Traditional LED strips can be replaced with cob strips. We’ll compare cob led strips to Smd led strips, which are the most common. We’ll examine the brightness, flexibility, and heat dissipation of each strip so you can make an educated decision.

  • Brightness: Both LED strips are quite bright, which is a standard feature of LED lights. Because of the positioning of the chips on the circuit board, cob led strips are brighter than smd led strips. While the diodes are evenly distributed around the board, the chips are packed closer together, resulting in a more uniform light. In addition, compared to smd led strips, cob led strips can distribute light at a broader angle.

  • Flexibility: Both types of strips are extremely flexible, allowing them to illuminate places that were previously thought to be difficult to light. In this sense, cob led strips have an edge because they emit roughly 1,500 lumens of light. The chips are also equally dispersed across the strip, giving it more flexibility and allowing it to fit into tighter spaces. Both light strips come with extension strips in case you need to use longer lengths of strip.

  • Efficiency: Cob LED strips have a higher efficiency than standard LED strips. This assumption is supported by the fact that they are brighter, more flexible, and use less energy. Cob led strips emit stronger light at the same wattage as smd led strips, according to tests. The efficiency of LED strips is also determined by the brand, with well-known brands having a reputation to uphold and being more likely to provide a high-quality product.
  • Heat dissipation: The amount of heat produced by smd and cob led strips is nearly identical. The difference is in heat dissipation; both have heat dissipation, but owing to the manner the chips are coupled to the semiconductor, cob led strips are more efficient.

In the dispute between smd and cob leds. SMD led strips are inferior to cob led strips. SMD led strips cannot compete with cob led strips in terms of brightness and efficiency. So, if you’re thinking about buying LED strips and can’t decide between the two, I’d recommend going with Cob LED strips.

How Is Cob Led Strips Made

We need to know what cob led lights are before we can look at how led strips are manufactured. Cob LED strips are created in a technique that is nearly identical to that of LED strips. The key distinction is that cob led strips transmit light through chips rather than conventional size diodes. When current is sent through these chips, they emit light and are connected to a circuit. To provide a smoother and more uniform light, they are densely packed.

They are protected by a double layer of protection, making them safe to handle even by children. The cob led chips are directly linked to the circuit board, and the double sheathing allows for better heat dissipation. Warm white, neutral white, and cold white are the three whites offered for LED core strips. LED strips in red, green, and blue are also available.

There are two varieties of cob leds in terms of power consumption: 12 volt and 24 volt cob leds. Cob LED strips come in four different lengths: 1, 1.8, 2.7, 3.7, and 5 meters. Custom LED strips for cob LED strips are also available to fit the specific needs of each customer.

Cob Led Strip Applications: Why Cob Is Better

Cob LED strips have a wide range of applications due to their excellent brightness, flexibility, and efficiency. They include the following:

Advertising and signage

Accent lighting for the task

Lighting in general

Backlighting

Uses for decoration

Cob led strips have replaced standard led lights in many applications due to their superior qualities. They are more efficient, require less energy, and are brighter.

Conclusion

If a traditional LED flex strip is not enough for your job, then I recommend COB LED flex strips. They are new to the market, but these LED strips will start to become commonplace in the LED strip world.
